Research
Research has started to take off recently.
Areas currently being researched include:
- Disturbances in the inhibitory system - how pain is felt.
- Neuro-endocrine system - there are a lot of hormonal abnormalities
in FMs.
- Neuropeptides - proteins used in the transmission of electrical information
through the body to the brain where it is recognised
as pain.
- Growth hormone secretion - the hypothalamus which controls the degree
of pain tolerance, functions differently in FMs.
